How would you work if there were no constraints?

by | Apr 10, 2019 | Organizational Governance

What would you do with your work if there was nothing in your way?

–No boss limiting you–

–No budgets holding you back–

–Nothing in your way–

When we reimagine ourselves moving freely, without focusing on what holds us back, we breathe easier, we stand taller.

Hold on to that imagined freedom.

Now do it.

Oh, but wait… you are still going to need to set some ground rules if there are more than just one of you.

There will be policies, some procedures, agreements on how you will work together, some guidelines around access and infrastructure… Oh, and how you treat each other.

That’s not actually a rub, it is a guidepost. Constraints may feel limiting, but they are what keep our integrity, ethics, and values in balance. They also make us creative.

We look at what someone else is doing and we want to have the freedom to do that, but then there are these constraints. You may not know this, but we build better things when we understand our boundaries and protect the parts of our company with the right governance.
