Modeling Leadership

by | May 22, 2019 | Universal Leadership

When you think about your biggest heroes, the ones you wish you could be like, it’s usually because of the way they act and the behaviour they exhibit.

That’s modeling.

Leadership isn’t about getting what you want from people, it’s about building better leaders as you go.

Here are some of the ways great leaders model leadership for their teams:

  • They are the example of what they expect from others.
  • They are present to the team and to the mission.
  • They are flexible, knowing experimentation is an important ingredient to success.
  • They react positively, knowing not everything will go as planned.
  • They build a reputation for helping others.
  • They start with trust and build trust by being trustworthy.
  • They pay attention to leadership styles and bend accordingly.
  • They have emotional intelligence exhibited by how they care about others.

Heroes show us why we want to admire them. If you are building a reputation, don’t pose, don’t just position yourself, be real.

Be the hero in your workplace story.
